Biography

Jonathan Burton is an Associate Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Oxford and Tutorial Fellow at Somerville College.

He was an undergraduate at New College, Oxford and conducted his final year research project (Part II) with Professor George Fleet working on the chemistry of sugar lactones. His doctoral studies were with Professor Andrew Holmes FRS at the University of Cambridge working on the synthesis of medium-ring ether natural products. He conducted post-doctoral research with Professor Alexandre Alexakis at the University of Paris VI developing catalytic enantioselective conjugate addition reactions. He returned to the University of Cambridge as a Research Fellow at Corpus Christi College and was awarded a Royal Society University Research Fellowship in 2000. 

In 2007 he was appointed to a University Lectureship in Organic Chemistry at the University of Oxford.
